Born on November 16th, 1969 in Constanta County, Captain Sorin GRECU graduated from the Navy High School "A. I. Cuza" Constanta in 1988, following the courses of the Naval Academy "Mircea cel Batran".

In 1993 he graduated from the Naval Academy and was licensed as a mechanical engineer in the field of submarine weapons, being promoted to Lieutenant JG.

He is promoted to the Lieutenent rank in 1995, Lieutenant Commander in 2002, Commander in 2006 and Captain in 2016.

Upon completion of the Naval Academy courses he was assigned to the Small Minesweeper 5 Mangalia Minesweeper Unit as commander of Artillery and Underwater Weapons Unit.

Between 1993-1996 he carried out his activity on board ships of the same unit, occupying various positions.

Between 1996 - 1998, he served as an Executive Officer on board "Grozavul" Marine Rescue Tug, belonging to the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate.

During this period, he participated in various national and international missions within the framework of the peace partnership or in the multinational exercises the Naval Forces took part in.

Between 1998 and 2006, the officer participated in numerous international missions in the framework of the Partnership for Peace in National and International Waters and humanitarian actions (the 1999 earthquake in Turkey) as an Executive Officer on “Grozavul” Marine Search and Rescue Tug with deep sea divers on board.

In 2006, he was appointed Commanding Officer of the “Grozavul” Marine Search and Rescue Tug, a job performed until 2008.

In 2008 he is appointed at the command of the Deep Sea Divers ship "Grigore Antipa", until 2009.

Between 2009 and 2011, the officer was Head of the Marine Geography Research Laboratory within the Marine Hydrographic Directorate, and from 2011 to 2017, Head of the Center for Analysis and Assessment of Mine Warfare Data Center (MWDC), within the same Institution.

In 2017 he is empowered to serve as Chief of Staff of the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate, being appointed as Deputy Head of the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate since November of the same year.

During this period, various training courses were completed, such as: GMDSS course, Staff Officer Course for the Naval Forces, postgraduate training in management - Naval Forces, as well as English courses.

In the period 2007-2009 he has improved his academic training upon completion of the Masters Courses at "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, in "International Relations and Security systems" field.

During 2017 - 2019 the officer has completed the program of Master's Degree studies at the National Defense University "Carol I".

As a mark of appreciation, for the proven professionalism and outstanding achievements gained throughout his career, he was awarded the following orders and distinctions: Emblem of Merit "In Service of the Romanian Armed Forces" 3rd rank and the Honorific Insignia “Service in the Armed Forces” for his 15, 20 and 25 years of activity.

Captain Sorin Grecu is married and has a child.
